Grants for American Nonprofit Organizations

Our local community grants are awarded through an open application process and provide funding directly from Walmart and Sam’s Club facilities to local organizations in the U.S. Don’t know how to determine your local facility? Don’t worry, the application will assist you.

Guidelines

- - Local Community grants range from a minimum of $250 to a maximum of $5,000.
  - Eligible nonprofit organizations must operate on the local level (or be an affiliate/chapter of a larger organization that operates locally) and directly benefit the service area of the facility from which they are requesting funding.
  - Grant applications for calendar year 2023 will be accepted on a quarterly basis. Deadlines for submissions are as follows:
    - Quarter 1: Feb 1 – April 15
    - Quarter 2: May 1 – July 15
    - Quarter 3: August 1 – October 15
    - Quarter 4: November 1 – December 31
  - Applications may be submitted at any time during each quarter funding cycle. All applications will be reviewed prior to the next funding cycle.
  - Organizations may only submit a total number of 25 applications and/or receive up to 25 grants within the 2023 grant cycle.
  - All organizations applying for a Local Community grant must be CyberGrants FrontDoor verified prior to applying.

The Pollination Project seeks to unleash goodness and expand compassion all over the world. To that end, through our pioneering Daily Grant program, we make $1000 micro grants 365 days a year. These grants are designed to kick start an organization or individual’s work and give them the lift they need to thrive and grow. Our daily grantmaking began on January 1, 2013 and since then, we have funded a different project every single day. All qualified applicants in any funding area are considered within the guidelines of this program.

The Home Depot Foundation works to improve the homes and lives of U.S. veterans, train skilled tradespeople to fill the labor gap and support communities impacted by natural disasters. Since 2011, the Foundation has invested more than $400M in veteran causes and improved more than 50,000 veteran homes and facilities. The Foundation has pledged to invest half of a billion dollars in veteran causes by 2025 and $50 million in training the next generation of skilled tradespeople through the Path to Pro program.

The Home Depot Foundation is deeply committed to serving veterans and works with nonprofit organizations across the country to give back to our nation’s heroes. Our Veteran Housing Grants Program was created to help nonprofits fund the development and repair of multi-unit veteran housing facilities. Awards typically range from $100,000 to $500,000.

Google offers registered nonprofit organizations in Canada and the United States a budget of $10,000 per month for Google Ads.

This can be used to increase traffic to your website, donations pages, recruit volunteers, and so much more.

Note this grant is relatively easy to apply for, however not so easy to use. I highly suggest you discuss this with a digital marketing professional before going down this road to make sure your website and landing pages are ready, and that you have someone dedicated to manage your ads on a regular basis. The Duke Energy Foundation receives grant applications through its various state initiatives and each state has unique processes for receiving grant applications. Please follow your state's flow chart for more information on how your organization should apply for grant funding with the Duke Energy Foundation.

To qualify for grant funding consideration, your organization must meet the following criteria:

Have current tax-exempt status as a public charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code, be a governmental entity, including school systems.
Serve communities that are also served by Duke Energy
Serve communities without discrimination against any individual on the basis of race, creed, gender, gender identity, age, sexual orientation or national origin
Have a method by which to measure, track and report one or more program outcomes and specific results that demonstrate measurable community impact

The Max and Victoria Dreyfus Foundation awards grants to organizations for which a small amount of money might make a large difference. The Foundation welcomes requests for support from community-based, non-profit organizations based in the United StatesS

The Max and Victoria Dreyfus Foundation will consider grants for IRS-qualified non-profit organizations located within the United States. The Foundation aims to support organizations and programs for which a relatively small amount of funding might make a large difference. The Foundation will consider requests to support museums, cultural and performing arts programs; schools and hospitals; educational, skills-training and other programs for youth, seniors, and persons with disabilities; environmental and wildlife protection activities; and other community-based organizations and programs. Awards typically range from $1,000 to $20,000.

It is generally difficult to find grants that are willing to fund general operational costs for a nonprofit organization. The Lawrence Foundation is one exception.

Grant Amount and Types

Grants typically range between $5,000 - $10,000. In some limited cases we may make larger grants, but that is typically after we have gotten to know your organization over a period of time. We also generally don’t make multi-year grants, although we may fund the same organization on a year by year basis over a period of years.
General operating or program/project grant requests within our areas of interests are accepted.
In general, regardless of whether a grant request is for general operating or program/project expenses, all of our grants will be issued as unrestricted grants.

Grant Guidelines & Deadlines

The foundation makes grants to US based qualified charitable organizations. To date we have funded organizations that address the following areas of interest:

Environment (US headquartered organizations operating programs in the US or elsewhere in the world),
Human Services
Disaster relief (US headquartered organizations responding to disasters in the US or elsewhere in the world on an occasional basis),
Other (US headquartered organizations operating programs in the US or elsewhere in the world).

Nonprofit organizations that qualify for public charity status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code or public schools and libraries are eligible for contributions or grants.

We are okay if a portion of any grant that we award is used for reasonable indirect costs. 50% or lower would be reasonable for indirect costs.

Our foundation is based in Santa Monica, CA but has no geographical restrictions.

Our foundation has two grant cycles: June and December. A completed application must be submitted online, using the Common Grant Application, by midnight (23:59:59) Central Time (CT) on either April 30 or October 31.
